The Capitol Theatre is thrilled to announce the return of our hugely popular Shorty’s Tours this December! After selling out every offering earlier this year, Shorty (the Capitol Theatre’s enigmatic resident ghost) is back to lead a new round of guided tours just in time for the holiday season. Join us for three special Wednesdays in December as we once again open the doors to the theatre’s most storied and mysterious spaces, all while supporting the arts in Yakima.
A Century of Cultural Enrichment
Since its opening in 1920, the Capitol Theatre has served as a cornerstone of cultural expression in Yakima. As a community-based, board-driven non-profit organization, the theatre curates dynamic programming, fosters community access, and preserves its historic legacy. Each year, the Capitol Theatre presents and hosts an average of 175 events which enrich the lives of residents and visitors alike.
Who Is Shorty?
For decades, performers, technicians, staff, and audience members have shared stories of unexplained happenings and fleeting shadows throughout the building. These tales all point to one beloved figure: Shorty. Though theories abound about why Shorty chose to stay with us at the Capitol Theatre, we know one thing for certain - his presence has become a cherished part of the our lore, sparking wonder and curiosity in visitors year after year.
