Over the past two months, the Capitol Theatre welcomed audiences behind the scenes with Shorty’s Tour of the Capitol Theatre, an intimate look at the spaces, stories, and secrets that make this historic venue so special.
We hosted 15 tours and welcomed 147 participants, each visit filled with curiosity, laughter, and stories. From the historic stage to rarely-seen backstage corners, guests had the chance to explore the theatre from a new perspective. Along the way, we shared tales of the building’s colorful past—and were just as moved by the stories shared with us by attendees who had their own memories of time spent at the Capitol.
We’re also grateful for the generosity of those who participated. While the tours were free, many chose to donate, resulting in nearly 50 contributions in support of the theatre's ongoing mission - a gesture that speaks to the strong bond between this space and its community. And, whether first-time visitors or longtime patrons, participants walked away with a deeper appreciation for the Capitol Theatre’s history and role in Yakima’s cultural life.
Due to the enthusiastic response, we’re happy to share that additional tour dates are planned for this fall. Stay tuned for announcements—there’s more to discover, and we can’t wait to welcome even more guests behind the curtain.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this first round of Shorty’s Tours. Your stories, support, and smiles made it unforgettable.
