The Capitol Theatre is proud to present the Global Voices Series, a celebration of diverse artistry, storytelling, and cultural heritage. This spring, experience two unforgettable performances that spotlight the vibrant traditions and powerful voices shaping our world.
Las Guaracheras
Friday, April 25th
Hailing from Cali, Colombia, Las Guaracheras is an electrifying all-women salsa sextet redefining Afro-Latin music. Since their formation in 2017, the group has been dedicated to amplifying the female voice in music and creating a more inclusive cultural space. With vibraphone, percussion, bass, piano, and rich vocals, their performances are an explosive blend of rhythm and melody that will have you dancing and reflecting in equal measure.
This performance is made possible through the Performing Arts Global Exchange program of Mid Atlantic Arts, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Aunties
Thursday, May 15th
Honor the wisdom and resilience of Indigenous women and two-spirit culture bearers with The Aunties, a unique live storytelling and documentary series. This inspiring event features three Indigenous auntie culture bearers from surrounding traditional territories sharing personal stories that reflect their roles as the heart of their communities.
The stories are accompanied by archival photographs and enriched with legacy works, including poetry, song, and visual art. Join us for a heartfelt celebration of tradition, culture, and connection through the lens of these remarkable women.
