Helobung means “endless joy” and is also a long-standing collective of indigenous Tboli musicians, singers, and dancers from the Philippines.
The ensemble plays gong-like instruments familiar to lovers of Filipino kulintang or Javanese gamelan. Their pulsing, ever-shifting tones create rhythmic waves underscored by other small percussion, summoning a high-energy soundscape. In response, dancers exhibit breathtaking footwork paired with sweeping arms, slow spins, and wiggling hips, elegant dignity and playful athleticism.
