The Power of the Lycian Superstar 1281
The addition of these three Lycian Superstar 1281 spotlights ensures that every performer and scene at the Capitol Theatre gets the attention and clarity it deserves. Followspots are more than just a light—they’re a storytelling tool, focusing the audience's eyes and heightening the impact of every moment.
Our new followspots take this essential function to the next level. With three instruments of the same make and intensity, we ensure a balanced effect when all three are used together. These 1,000-watt LED spotlights produce an astonishing 338 lumens on stage from over 100 feet away. For context, that’s the equivalent of an actor holding a bare 60-watt bulb right next to their face—a level of brightness that ensures they’re clearly visible to every member of the audience, no matter where they’re seated.
One of the best features of these spotlights is their flexibility. They can adjust to create a focused beam as small as a 1-foot circle or expand to a larger 12-foot diameter. This precision allows our lighting designers and operators to match the mood and scale of every moment, from highlighting a soloist in a quiet ballad to illuminating a large ensemble number.
Additionally, the "boomerang" device lets operators change between six colors by swapping gels on the fly, adding visual variety and artistic flair to performances. Whether it’s a romantic warm glow or a dramatic cool blue, these lights can set the tone instantly.
Despite their incredible capabilities, these followspots are easy to set up. They run on a standard 120v outlet—the same type of outlet you’d find in your home. While they’re best used on our stage, it’s impressive to think how accessible their technology has become.
