PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Usher position assists guests and patrons while attending performances at the Capitol and 4th Street Theatres.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the CTC House Manager. This position also works closely in collaboration with CTC volunteers with outside touring personnel, renters, and vendors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

(The essential functions listed below do not reflect all duties that may be assigned to this position.  The Patron Services Manager may augment duties, including essential functions, at their discretion.)

  1. Provides superior customer service to patrons with the 1st priority being audience safety and comfort.
  2. Greets patrons, takes tickets, hands out programs, and guides patrons to their seats.
  3. Answers patrons’ questions regarding show length, restroom locations, etc.
  4. Staffs concession stands and merchandise counter as needed.
  5. Restores the house after each performance, including raising seats and picking up trash.
  6. Performs light janitorial duties in the Front of House areas including trash removal, vacuuming, and restocking of restrooms.
  7. Performs under the Working Conditions described below.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY:

ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  1. Require a friendly, outgoing individual with strong communication, listening, and customer service skills.
  2. Able to operate effectively as a team leader both individually and within a group.
  3. Punctual and reliable with an attention to detail.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  1. Effective communication and customer service.
  2. Basic theatre operations.

 ABILITY TO:

  1. Work collaboratively as part of a team.
  2. Greet patrons and create an environment of goodwill and patron satisfaction.

 EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION/LICENSES, AND TRAINING:

  1. None required

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Regularly work in a “theatre environment” including standing for extended periods and working in low-light situations.
  2. Hours will vary depending on the number of events in the season and needs of each event.
  3. Occasionally work mandatory overtime.
  4. Regularly work with unsatisfied or angry customers.
  5. Regularly work under tight time constraints.
  6. Frequently lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to and over 50 pounds.
