Job Description:
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Bartender position is responsible for the selling of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages during theatre events.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Capitol Theatre Committee (CTC) Bar Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
(The essential functions listed below do not reflect all duties that may be assigned to this position. The Patron Services Manager may augment duties, including essential functions, at their discretion.)
1. Provide superior customer service with the first priority being audience safety and comfort.
2. Answer patrons’ questions regarding show length, restroom locations, bar menu, etc.
3. Sell beverages and process sales transactions (credit card processing and making change for cash sales) in a fast-paced and time- constrained setting.
4. Reconcile sales at the beginning and end of each shift.
5. Maintain bar cleanliness.
6. Restock the bar as needed – often navigating stairs and lifting heavy objects.
7. Perform under the Working Conditions described below.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY:
ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS:
1. Require a friendly, outgoing individual with strong communication, listening, and customer service skills.
2. Able to operate effectively both individually and within a group.
3. Punctual and reliable with an attention to detail.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
1. Effective communication and customer service.
2. Safe working practices and industry standards.
3. Cash management and credit card handling.
4. Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations.
ABILITY TO:
1. Work under minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
2. Greet patrons and create an environment of goodwill and patron satisfaction.
3. Accurately balance and transact cash and credit card sales.
4. Gather and evaluate information and communicate it to others effectively.
EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION/LICENSES, AND TRAINING:
1. Working knowledge of bar operations and applicable liquor laws.
2. Must be 21 years of age with a valid Class 12 MAST permit.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Regularly work in a “theatre environment” including standing for extended periods and working in low-light situations.
2. Occasionally work in an “outdoor environment.”
3. Hours will vary depending on the number of events in the season and needs of each event.
4. Occasionally work mandatory overtime.
5. Regularly work with unsatisfied or angry customers.
6. Regularly work under tight time constraints.
7. Frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to and over 100 pounds.
